Understanding Correlations

Correlations in 7th Period

What can be inferred about the graph above is that there is absolutely no connection between hair length and height. The students in out class have very little in common when it comes to hair length and height. Due to so many outliers there is neither a positive or negative correlation. If these were removed we'd have a weak positive correlation. If we'd have the gender information i feel it'd be more beneficial to interpret the data.

It is almost impossible to say that there is a relationship between shoe size and height. Yes, there are many cases in which, taller people have bigger feet and shorter people have smaller feet, but as proven in this experiment, there can never be anything conclusive. Height doesnt cause shoe size to change just as shoe size doesnt cause height to. One does not cause the other. Yet there is a correlation; a positive one, between these two variables, but correlation never indicates causality.
